Butter & Love Gourmet Cookies

Project Overview


This project was completed as a school exercise that allowed me to work with a real business in a client–designer relationship. I collaborated directly with my mother, the owner of Butter and Love, who acted as the client by providing clear goals, personal insight, and ongoing feedback throughout the process. The project emphasized thoughtful brand refinement, balancing emotional storytelling with strategic design decisions to elevate the existing identity.


Client Collaboration & Deliverables


This project involved close collaboration with the client to thoughtfully refine an existing brand identity that held strong personal meaning. The original logo featured handwritten elements, including a script “L” in Love and a hand-drawn heart, both of which the client wanted to preserve as reflections of the handmade, love-driven nature of the business. These elements served as an emotional foundation for the redesign and guided many of the design decisions throughout the process.


While maintaining these core elements, the focus shifted toward simplifying the overall identity and improving the color palette to create a cleaner, more cohesive brand system. The final deliverables included a refined logo suite with multiple color variations and a comprehensive set of brand guidelines outlining logo usage, color palette, typography, and imaging direction for social media. Together, these assets provided Butter and Love with a flexible and consistent visual identity designed to support future growth.


Conclusion


Although Butter and Love ultimately closed its business before the new branding could be implemented, this project was a valuable exercise in real-world collaboration and client-centered design. Working closely with a client who had a strong emotional connection to the brand reinforced the importance of listening, compromise, and intentional refinement. The project highlights my ability to evolve an existing identity thoughtfully while balancing personal meaning with strategic design principles.
